AV Technician (Part-Time)
Hourly Rate: $24.00/hour - $30.00/hour

The AV Technician provides expert attention to live events and meetings set up so clients, members and staff at the Innovation Centre have exceptional experiences with audio and video technology. This includes setup and operation of blended presence events, working directly with clients as required for requests or troubleshooting during events, as well as providing input on how to execute productions and design set ups in advance of events and bookings.

This role is part time (approximately 15-20 hours per week) with hours determined specifically by the times and duration of events and bookings in the Innovation Centre. Bookings are predominantly during typical business hours but can vary into evenings.

The day-to-day activities of the AV Technician will include:
  • Set up and take down of audiovisual equipment for multiple use cases (in person and/or hybrid) throughout the Innovation Centre, including but not limited to: speeches, facilitation/content delivery, presentations, workshops, lectures, boardroom meetings, music, broadcast, etc.
  • In liaison with the Platform Events Team, engage with clients as required to inform and recommend technical solutions in advance of bookings, and provide production and technical support during bookings as required. Also be able to assist and advise external AV vendors that clients engage for their productions.
  • Troubleshoot emergent issues.
  • Operate equipment (both video and sound) for live productions.
  • Video conferencing, including Meet, Zoom and multi-broadcast streaming.
  • Be available to assist and support clients that have designated to produce their own events for troubleshooting as required.
  • Champion Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) initiatives at Platform Calgary.

The right candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:
  • Proficient operating professional video switcher (Roland V-60HD) and multiple PTZ cameras for live productions.
  • Proficient operating an audio mixer for teleconferencing applications.
  • Comfortable operating DSLR camera (Sony Alpha 6400)
  • PC (Windows and Mac OS) troubleshooting skills as it relates to presentations: display settings, audio, PowerPoint network connectivity, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with teammates, founders, partners, members and other players in the tech ecosystem.
  • Ability to flourish in a fast-paced environment, adapt and be proactive.
  • Passion for innovation, community and entrepreneurship.
  • Competency in Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, Eventbrite, HubSpot and Notion are considered an asset.
