Cafe Ambassador

Description

Cafe Ambassador

Platform Calgary

The Opportunity

You are drawn to Calgary’s thriving tech sector and you're looking to build a meaningful career that allows you to have an impact in your community. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy putting your own innovative spin on things, then we think this is what you were meant to do as Platform Calgary’s newest Cafe Ambassador.
Reporting to the Lead, Cafe Operations (or its designated), you will work alongside a mission-driven team that is committed to making Calgary the best place in the world to start and grow a tech company. We’re passionate about activating our community and nurturing a city-wide culture of innovation.
The Cafe Ambassador is a critical role for a community builder who wants to create an engaging and welcoming environment at the Platform Innovation Centre. While you will support the daily operations of the Café, your primary focus is acting as the "front door" for our ecosystem, ensuring every visitor feels connected to the resources they need to succeed.

This is a part-time position.

The Day-to-Day Activities

The day-to-day activities of the Cafe Ambassador will include:

  • Front Door Engagement: Greet and engage with visitors of the Platform Innovation Centre, answering questions about Platform Calgary’s mission and assisting with wayfinding.
  • Ecosystem Advocacy: Provide knowledgeable service and attention, acting as a resource for guests, founders, and tech ecosystem members regarding the programs and events happening within the Centre.
  • Exceptional Hospitality: Provide high-quality front-line service to cafe customers by preparing and serving coffees, teas, and other beverages.
  • Food Service: Warm and serve breakfast and lunch style foods while speaking knowledgeably about products and making recommendations.
  • Environment & Operations: Maintain the café in terms of organization, visual presentation, and a high level of cleanliness to ensure the seating area is always welcoming.
  • Transaction Management: Efficiently and accurately process customer transactions through the POS system.
  • Operational Support: Maintain records of stock, sales, and wastage, ensuring supplies are requested in a timely fashion.
  • Team Collaboration: Support the Lead, Cafe Operations with the training of new staff and other duties as required as part of our “All Hands” values.

Qualifications

The right candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences—from first-time visitors to founders and tech ecosystem members—and represent the Platform Calgary brand with confidence.
  • Experience in community-facing roles, public relations, or high-touch customer service where building meaningful relationships is the primary goal.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities concurrently, balancing proactive visitor engagement with the operational needs of the space.
  • Valid Proserve certification.

What We Are Looking For

During the interview process, we will be looking for:

  • A community-first mindset: You are energized by meeting new people and are eager to help them build connections within our community and the tech ecosystem.
  • Professionalism & Rapport: A high level of professionalism and the ability to connect with others to build positive relationships.
  • Forward-thinking: You can anticipate and act on the needs and requests of customers and visitors before they even ask.
  • A connector's perspective: You see the café as a tool for creating connection and a sense of belonging, rather than just a place to serve food and beverages.
  • A passion for learning: You enjoy learning together with your teammates and helping others to succeed in their work.

Platform Calgary Perks

  • Salary Range: $18.00/hour
  • A Unique Place to Work: The Platform Innovation Centre is the front door to Calgary’s tech and innovation community, home to 100+ partners dedicated to helping companies start, grow, and succeed.
