Content Marketing Specialist
Description
Content Marketing Specialist
Platform Calgary
The Opportunity
Are you a systems-first, highly organized professional looking to build a meaningful career at the heart of Calgary's tech sector? If you thrive in a collaborative environment and possess the strategic execution required to support our marketing and storytelling engine, then we think this is what you were meant to do as Platform Calgary's newest Content Marketing Specialist.
As the Content Marketing Specialist, you will be a central partner in keeping our programs full and our community engaged. Reporting directly to the Marketing Manager, you will serve as our Managing Editor, finding and telling the stories of Calgary’s founders while rebuilding our digital systems behind the scenes. This is a full-time, 14-month contract role for an intermediate professional.
We are looking for a team member who possesses the brand voice mastery and operational resilience to engage effectively with our partners and stakeholders while understanding how their work supports our overarching strategic priorities.
The Day-to-Day Activities
- Narrative Curation & Multi-Format Writing: Mastery of brand voice adaptation. You can move from drafting a high-stakes long-form report to a high-energy LinkedIn post or a professional sponsorship recap without losing the Platform Calgary soul.
- Campaign Architecture & Project Orchestration: You will build and manage complex multi-month campaign plans (Calgary Innovation Week). Building and managing the production process spending time mapping out dependencies, setting timelines, and ensuring the rest of the team knows exactly what is due and when.
- Multi-Channel Distribution & Platform Management:
- Owning the master scheduling calendar and publishing across LinkedIn, Instagram via HubSpot, and website to ensure a consistent, strategic brand pulse.
- Actively managing social accounts by responding to comments, sparking ecosystem conversations, and maintaining the Platform Calgary voice in real-time.
- Assembling and testing newsletters in HubSpot and managing the backend of Eventbrite/Showpass (setting up ticket types and automated attendee communications).
- Creative Production & Brand Governance:
- You know how to speak designer. You can write a creative brief that gets the right asset on the first try without over-scoping our design.
- Maintaining the source of truth (logos, photography, boilerplates) in a self-service library so the organization can move quickly without marketing becoming a bottleneck.
- AI-Native Content Orchestration: Must demonstrate a day-one systems-first approach to content production, leveraging Generative AI (e.g., Gemini) not as a simple drafting tool, but as an operational multiplier.
- Editorial & Performance Analysis: Pulling reports and interpreting manual and automated reports to see what content is actually driving engagement vs. what is just noise, and pivot the master editorial calendar accordingly.
- Organizational Enablement: You don't just write; you enable others to write by creating the frameworks, templates, and AI-assisted workflows that allow cross-functional non-marketing stakeholders to produce high quality on-brand tactical communications independently so the marketing team doesn't become a bottleneck for tactical updates.
Qualifications
- Education: Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred) or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience: Minimum 4+ years of direct experience in Content Marketing or Brand Storytelling.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in HubSpot, Asana, Canva, and Eventbrite/Showpass.
- AI Acumen: Familiarity with AI tools to improve workflows is a major asset; you should have a history of using AI as an operational multiplier.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage 100+ task project plans and see multiple priorities through from planning to execution.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to act as a polished representative of Platform Calgary to diverse personas, from tech founders to corporate sponsors.
What We Are Looking For
During the interview process, we will be looking for:
- Community-First Mindset: You are energized by the tech ecosystem and eager to help others build meaningful connections.
- Bias for Action: You take extreme ownership of the editorial calendar and proactively identify gaps or friction in processes.
- Adaptability & Judgment: You can navigate high-intensity surges, like Calgary Innovation Week, applying sound judgment to manage competing priorities.
- Collaborative Professionalism: You work effectively across different departments, maintaining high standards as our systems evolve.
- Continuous Improvement: You don't just follow processes; you turn one-off tasks into repeatable templates and frameworks.
Platform Calgary Perks
- A Unique Place to Work: The Platform Innovation Centre is the front door to Calgary's tech community, home to 100+ partners.
- Innovation & Growth: Work in a space that encourages new ideas, professional development, and continuous learning.
- Comprehensive Benefits: We offer an excellent package including group and executive benefits starting on day one, RRSP matching, plenty of time off, hybrid work opportunities, a cellular allowance, and on-site parking.
A Note on AI and Your Application
At Platform Calgary, we value innovation. We encourage you to collaborate with Generative AI (like Gemini or ChatGPT) as a tool to help prepare your application or refine your portfolio.
However, we hire for the human edge. While AI can be a powerful multiplier, it cannot replace your unique perspective, strategic intuition, or ability to capture the human story. Use the tools, but act as their Managing Editor—ensure your submission reflects your own creativity, critical thinking, and genuine passion for Calgary’s startup community. And while you’re at it, make sure to tell us how you are using AI tools to maximize your superpowers.
The Interview Process
- Stage 1: A telephone call with a member of the People & Culture Team.
- Stage 2: An in-person interview with the Marketing Manager.
- Stage 3: A take-home case study
- Stage 4: Case study presentation with the Marketing Manager, a member of the Leadership team and cross-functional team members.
Diversity and Inclusion
We are fostering a culture of belonging that is diverse and inclusive. This begins with an equitable and accessible hiring process. We highly encourage applications from excluded and marginalized communities. You do not need to meet 100% of the qualifications to apply—f you think this could be the role for you and you bring something unique to the table, submit your application!
